History
2000
New regulations for the low harmonic AC-currents (EN61000-3-2) for AC/DC converters will be imposed on a wide range of consumer and industrial products. As a result, an additional power conversion needs to be done with loss of efficiency as a result. To investigate this, a research project between several Danish companies, the Danish Energy Authority and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) is initiated. One of the founders, Lars Press Petersen, is carrying out the research part at the university as part of his pursue for the PhD-degree.
2003
Several ideas emerge during the research project and the University together with Lars Press Petersen decides to file for a patent on EWiRaC (Efficient Wide Range Converter) . Later the I-EWiRaC is included (Isolated-EWiRaC). Lars Press Petersen receives his PhD-degree and starts working in the industry.
2004-2006
The EWiRaC concept is being tested by several projects at the University.
2007
Lars Press Petersen teams up with PhD Lars Tønnes Jakobsen to start a company based on the EWiRaC technology. The EWiRaC patent is acquired from the technical University of Denmark and the two entrepreneurs are backed up with funding from DTU-Innovation, CAT-Symbion and Seed Capital.
2008
Upcon Technology A/S is founded. Office locations at the Research Park Scion-DTU conveniently situated on campus of the Technical University of Denmark.
